Biography

Philip Toozs-Hobson Consultant Urogynaecologist

Philip is married with 3 children and 2 dogs. He trained in London at St Mary's Hospital qualifying in 1989. He is currently the Clinical director for Gynaecology and Director of Pelvic floor medicine at Birmingham Women's Hospital. After qualifying Philip specialised in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and worked in both the Midlands and London. He began specialising in Pelvic floor disorders when he commenced a 3 year WellBeing of Women fellowship with Professor Linda Cardozo in 1995.

Research into pelvic floor problems

During this time he became interested in maternal injury as a result of childbirth culminating in his MD in 2003. Since this time he has continued to run a research and clinical practice. He established one of the country's first combined specialist clinics dealing with complex bowel prolapse with Simon Radley and now has over 10 years experience in this area through this clinic.

Surgery for prolapse and incontinence

Philip has also specialised in advanced surgical techniques for pelvic organ prolapse and has spent 10 years developing both keyhole surgery and vaginal approaches to surgery so that patients can have a choice of procedure to allow them to choose how they would like to be treated.

Further details of the results of his research portfolio are given in the publication section Much of Philip's current research interests focus on helping patients using psychological approaches and hypnotherapy. More recently in response to need, he has re-established his interest and expertise in menopausal problems.
